AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi who has been leading the Congress campaign in Uttar Pradesh said that there has been rampant corruption under the regime of Mayawati’s BSP Government in Uttar Pradesh. He detailed various scams, corruption and misuse of funds by the BSP Government.
"The NRHM scam is a reflection of the level of corruption under the present regime," he said. Rahul Gandhi, however, exuded confidence that development would be back on track in UP once the Congress comes to power in the state and issues like education and health would be addressed on a priority. The Congress leader also rapped the NDA government for it's India Shining slogan which, he said, was "nowhere close to reality", and claimed that the UPA government was "the true representative government of 'aam aadmi' (common man)".
Castigating SP chief for his opposition to 4.5% quota for Muslims in government jobs, Rahul Gandhi said: "Both Mulayam and Mayawati have opposed the move which shows their 'concern' towards the welfare and upliftment of Muslims." Holding ruling party ministers, MLA's and party workers responsible for gobbling up funds worth Rs 8,000 crore sanctioned for Bundelkhand, Rahul said "this speaks volumes about their insensitivity towards the plight of farmers and common man in the Bundelkhand region".
Rahul Gandhi tossed a question at the gathering: "How many ministers are there in Maya cabinet from Bundelkhand?" When the crowd replied five, Rahul Gandhi said: "Imagine, all of them are facing corruption charges." This drew a loud applause from the crowd. Rahul Gandhi also questioned the SP and BSP chiefs for mocking his night halts at villages, and said: "If they had cared to do the same during their tenures, they would have got the real picture of the pathetic condition of these people."
His speech, interspersed with interactive sessions, struck an instant chord with the gathering that reciprocated their warmth and thunderous applause.
