Congress (I) has accused Mayawati government for cheating the poor farmers, agricultural laborers, dalits and poor people of backward classes. Persons belonging to SC/ST and owning land less than 1 hectare are entitled to free supply of high breed seeds. But government officials in Kanpur made this available only to 12,500 people of SC/ST category. Soon it was found that the list of beneficiaries was bogus and the money went into the pockets of corrupt officials and BSP leaders, said Congress (I). According to advisory council of NREGA Scheme, this is a scam of more than 50 crore. On investigation it has found that the list actually contained names of landless laborers who had nothing to do with highbred seeds. Thus, Mayawati government did not hesitate to cheat even poor farmers who were deprived of benefits of NREGA scheme meant for them, said Congress (I).
