Addressing a Congress workers’ meet at Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that the non-Congress governments in UP, during the past 22 years, have pulled the state backwards. On the third day of the second phase of Congress’ Campaign in the run up to the upcoming assembly polls in the state Rahul Gandhi promised that a Congress government will lead Uttar Pradesh back to the top position again.
On Bundelkhand package Rahul Gandhi continued “I went to Bundelkhand and personally experienced the pathetic conditions there. Central government sanctioned a relief package of Rs. 3000 cr. Mayawatiji never took pain to visit Bundelkhand to know the pain and agony of the people there. But the funds of Rs. 3000 cr vanished. Mayawati’s elephant ate all the funds. Who is the looser? It is the poor people who are the losers.”
He then listed out some of the reported corruption allegations against Maya Government. “Montek Singh Ahluwalia visited Bundelkhand to monitor the implementation of the relief package. He could not see anything there. Jairam Ramesh found out a lot of irregularities under the MGNREGA scheme in U.P. Health ministry found out that Rs. 3000 cr was looted under NRHM scam in the state. Whose money is this? “ he asked and said “It is not the money of the Centre or Mayawati. But it is yours”. Rahul Gandhi then asserted asserted “We will have to change these affairs in U.P. Only you can do it”.
