Congress claims that they solved long standing militancy problem in Assam

Militancy in some states has been an issue before the Centre and state governments. However, in 1980s and 1990s the problem of militancy became acute in North-East states. Militancy had other implications also. For example certain terrorist organizations were operating from Bangladesh while others were based in Burma. In Assam - a difficult border State in that sense - several landmark initiatives have been taken - the most recent being the beginning and the implementation of a major solution to a long standing militant problem. Congress has made commendable efforts in militancy affected states particularly in Assam. Such efforts have been appreciated so as to lead to a resounding victory which Congress secured in Assam this year. A specific department known as Department of North-East Region has been implementing plans for fast building of infrastructure in all over North-East states. Road, Bridges, Health care services and educational facilities are being created. People are seeing the changes. As a result problem of militancy has been solved.
